この標本について
方鉛鉱がこれほど姿を誇ることは滅多にありません。面が塗りつぶされた正方形ではなく、段を刻んだ枠として育った骸晶で、下地の明るい金属の上に柔らかな青灰色の皮膜をまとっています。真鍮色に輝く黄銅鉱の塊を横切るように結晶が積み重なり、その隙間からは針のように鋭く水のように澄んだ水晶が、霜さながらに噴き出しています。
骸晶は、結晶の稜が面の成長を追い越したときに生まれます。急速な晶出の証で、ありふれた中実の立方体よりも、この晶癖の方鉛鉱をコレクターははるかに高く評価します。青みを帯びた金属、金色の硫化鉱、無色の水晶——三者の対比が、ミニチュアサイズながら確かな存在感を生んでいます。
寸法は 3.7 × 4.2 × 4.2 cm、重量は 85 g とずっしりしています。写真のアクリル台に載せて飾れます。産地の記録は残っておらず、入手時のままの状態でお届けします。写真は現品です。
