Yaogangxian, Hunan, purple fluorite with quartz at 6.5 cm and 119 g; a small cabinet piece with a focal cube. Wash hands after handling.
Fluorite is the classic collector's halide: calcium fluoride that grows as cubes, octahedra and stepped combinations, often with colour zoning that shows best in daylight.
Good quartz is about hexagonal prisms with clean terminations and the glassy lustre that lets a cluster catch light from every angle.
Hunan's tungsten-tin and lead-zinc mines have supplied the world with fluorite, calcite, quartz and sulfide specimens since the 1990s.
By size it is small cabinet, 6.5 × 3.5 × 3 cm (2.56 × 1.38 × 1.18 in) and 119 g (4.2 oz). Condition is otherwise as photographed.
