Inner Mongolia purple octahedral fluorite at 6 cm and 112 g; a small cabinet piece with a focal crystal. Wash hands after handling.
Fluorite crystallises in the cubic system and is prized for its saturated colour, glassy lustre and the way zoned phantoms appear when the crystals are back-lit.
The Huanggangliang skarn district of Inner Mongolia is one of the great mineral finds of the 21st century, known for fluorite, calcite, garnet and rare species.
By size it is small cabinet, 6 × 4.8 × 2.5 cm (2.36 × 1.89 × 0.98 in) and 112 g (4.0 oz). Condition is otherwise as photographed.
