この標本について
幅の広い刃のような結晶が、この内モンゴル産標本の中央にまっすぐ立っています。乳白色で、光を通すとかすかに緑を帯びます。その下半分からは、細い白色の柱状結晶が、こぼれ落ちた針の束のように扇状に広がっています。微細な黒い粒がほぼすべての面に数十粒散らばり、根元は錆色がかったオレンジに染まった粗い母岩へと沈み込んでいきます。
水晶と方解石の取り合わせは、この地方の炭酸塩岩に開いた晶洞を特徴づけるものです。手に載る一つの標本の中で、モース硬度7の鉱物と硬度3の鉱物を並べて見比べられるのは、手元に置く価値のある点でしょう。扱いは硬度の低い方に合わせます。使う道具は柔らかな刷毛だけにとどめ、酸も超音波洗浄も避けてください。細い柱状結晶は簡単に折れますので、動かすときは必ず下から支えてください。
寸法は 6.0 × 4.6 × 7.2 cm、重量は 140 g。写真の透明アクリル台座に粘着パテで固定してあります。ここに写っているのはイメージ写真ではなく、お届けするその標本そのものです。
