이 표본에 대하여
연어빛 분홍 능망간석 마름모 결정들이 징검다리처럼 이 작은 판을 지그재그로 가로지르고, 결정마다 설탕 같은 흰색 덧성장이 덮여 모서리를 둥글게 만들었습니다. 왼쪽 위에 있는 가장 큰 결정만이 그 아래 짙은 수박빛 중심부를 보여 줄 만큼 맑게 남아 있고, 나머지는 아래에 깔린 회색 석영 정동을 배경으로 옅은 장미색으로 보입니다.
능망간석은 망간 탄산염 MnCO3이며, 분홍색은 미량 불순물이 아니라 구조 속 망간에서 곧바로 비롯됩니다. 모스 경도 3.5~4로 무르고 세 방향으로 완전한 쪼개짐이 있어, 떨어뜨린 마름모 결정은 이가 빠지는 대신 평평한 면을 따라 갈라집니다. 오른쪽 가장자리를 따라 보면 보라색 형석 결정 하나가 정동 속으로 자라 들어와 있고, 그 부근에는 놋빛 황화 광물 알갱이가 흩어져 있으며, 반대쪽 모서리는 짙은 색 광물 껍질이 붙들고 있습니다.
판은 4.8 × 1.3 × 3.6 cm에 35 g으로, 얇게 저며 낸 한 장처럼 보이며 투명 아크릴 블록에 세워 두었습니다. 사진에 보이는 것이 곧 선반을 떠나는 그 표본입니다.
