De helft van de pyrietvlakken op deze Peruaanse groep is tot gunmetaal verdonkerd terwijl de rest nog messinghelder brandt, en juist die tweedeling maakt dat het stuk ook van een afstand opvalt. De kristallen zijn pyritoëders, met vijfhoekige vlakken die onder flauwe hoeken samenkomen en de grootste rond 1,5 cm breed, zo strak tegen elkaar geklemd dat kwarts alleen nog in smalle naden terechtkon.
Pyriet is ijzerdisulfide, FeS2, en de polymetallische aders van Peru zijn de klassieke bron voor zo scherp begrensde kristallen; de pyritoëder is een zeldzamere habitus dan de alledaagse pyrietkubus. Mohs 6 tot 6,5 klinkt robuust, maar pyriet is bros en hoeken schilferen af bij een stoot. De donkere waas op de bovenvlakken is een dunne oppervlakteaanslag die zich uitbreidt als het stuk vochtig blijft: droge plank, geen ultrasoon bad.
Met 6,0 × 5,0 × 4,0 cm en 200 g ligt de groep prettig in één hand; op de foto's is ze tussen de vingers gehouden om de schaal te tonen. Er wordt geen standaard meegeleverd. Elk beeld hierboven is van deze ene groep gemaakt.
