關於此標本
這塊福建岩板前方那顆大方解石，是一顆矮胖的平頂晶體，橫跨了標本三分之一的寬度，晶面交會成鈍角的三角斜面——這正是行內以「賓士（Mercedes-Benz）」為其暱稱的幾何由來。另外三顆同樣乳白半透形態的晶體分踞上緣與右緣，而它們之間的空間全被灰白色的細小石英針狀晶體絨毛填滿，幾乎把深色母岩掩埋殆盡。
方解石為 CaCO3，莫氏硬度 3，沿三個菱面體方向具完全解理，因此這麼大的晶體能從一塊布滿晶簇的岩板上完好無損地產出，並不是常態。前方晶體上淡淡的內部條紋標示著連續的生長層；底下的石英先生成，方解石再於其上成核，兩個世代讀來宛如同一片地景。
岩板尺寸 11.4 × 8.9 × 4.3 cm，重 350 g，如圖所示可填滿一掌。未配底座；照片拍攝的就是這一件，別無他件。
