關於此標本
兩枚蜜金色的頭部，自一段深灰綠色岩石的短莖上升起，較大的一枚像蘑菇傘般外張，較小的一枚則側斜著避開它。兩者都披覆著一層砂糖般細密的微小方解石晶體結殼，遠看是啞光，近看卻碎成成千上萬點各自獨立的閃光。結殼變薄之處，底下的岩石以一小塊一小塊的深色斑透了出來。
黃石的大冶礦區是一處矽卡岩礦系，鐵礦與銅礦形成於熱液與石灰岩相遇之處，而它的碳酸鹽結晶得晚，正好在更早、更深色的岩石上撲上這樣一層粒狀覆蓋。此處的黃色通常可追溯到自周圍礦石中攜入的鐵。方解石莫氏硬度 3，具完美的菱面體解理，而微晶結殼一經搓揉便迅速失去光彩，因此一支柔軟的乾刷，是它此生唯一該接受的清潔。
體量緊湊，4.3 × 2.0 × 3.0 cm、14 g，以黏土固定在照片中的透明壓克力方塊上。這就是寄出的那一件——不以同批的其他標本替換。
