兩片蜜色的晶體自一塊暗灰褐色的岩片上升起，一片寬闊挺立，另一片較小且側轉。兩者表面都覆著細密如糖的晶霜，把光線打碎成千百個亮點；兩者也都是溫暖的琥珀色而非白色——那是舉向窗前的淡茶色調。上緣還黏著幾點深色的母岩碎屑。
這類晶霜方解石屬於晚期產物，以薄殼的形式覆蓋在更早的基底上生長，所以這兩片會呼應底下岩石的形狀，而不是自成獨立的晶體。方解石幾乎什麼形態都做得出來——菱面體、複三方偏三角面體、釘頭狀、葡萄狀結殼，以及這種扁平的覆生。莫氏硬度 3 加上三個方向的完全解理，意味著它很容易留下痕跡；請與較硬的標本分開存放。
尺寸小巧，3.6 × 3.6 × 2.3 cm，重 20 g，隨附如圖以黏土固定的透明壓克力方塊。大冶礦的標本沒有兩件相同，畫面中的這一件連同方塊，就是離開店裡的那一件。
