粗短的乳白色方解石柱狀晶體自一個共同中心向外簇擁，直到整簇讀來像一小丘壓實的積雪。晶面在迎光處呈玻璃光澤，其下卻略顯混濁，而幾乎每一個晶面上都散布著不大於針頭的深綠色斑點——足以讓視線在一件原本通體一色的標本上持續游移。一楔淡褐色的圍岩仍橫跨在下方的晶體之間，是這件標本所生長的那個晶洞留下的最後痕跡。
方解石（CaCO3）莫氏硬度 3，質地偏軟，並在三個方向上具完美解理，因此一記石英晶體聳聳肩就能扛過的碰撞，在這裡卻可能自晶面剪下一道乾淨明亮的階梯。請托住底部而非晶尖拿取，讓它遠離食醋、可樂以及任何其他酸性物質，並以乾刷除塵而非用水清洗。
