About this specimen

Guangxi prismatic calcite at 10 cm; a cabinet plate in an all-cream palette.

Calcium carbonate in its rhombohedral form, calcite is soft (Mohs 3) and takes a bright vitreous to pearly lustre on fresh faces.

Guangxi's Daoping and Yangshuo districts produce the green pyromorphite, plumbogummite and calcite that made the province famous among collectors.

The piece is cabinet in size, 10 × 9.7 × 4.8 cm (3.94 × 3.82 × 1.89 in) and 534 g (18.8 oz). Otherwise the piece is sold exactly as photographed.

Carbonate: never clean with acid or vinegar.

Specimens are photographed and catalogued one at a time before they reach this page.
