關於此標本
顏色飽和到這種程度的透視石，在光線找到路徑鑽進去、綠意驟然點燃之前，看起來幾乎是黑的。兩群互不相連的晶體在一塊米黃色的砂糖狀母岩上落腳。較大的一群堆成一座低矮的丘，晶體短柱狀、晶端銳利；左側較小的一群則排成一條鬆散的鏈，單晶各自立在岩面上，之間散著淡薄荷色的細粒生長。
透視石是含水的銅矽酸鹽，CuSiO3·H2O，那份綠色由銅供給——與孔雀石的綠、藍銅礦的藍出自同一元素。它形成於銅礦床氧化帶的上部，而剛果的料子長期以來都是評判透視石顏色的標尺。莫氏硬度 5 聽來寬容，但這個礦種具良好的菱面體解理，晶端不必受多大委屈就會崩缺。
7.9 × 4.3 × 6.9 cm、235 g，兩群晶體同在一個寬闊的展示面上，背面平素，可平放亦可倚立。照片拍的正是這一件，連同母岩，一如它原本的模樣。
