淡紫色晶體以層層交疊的扇形覆滿這片貴州岩板，每一枚都是扁平的小矛，帶著鑿子般的尖端，彼此傾靠，直到整個表面看來如覆霜一般。藏紅花黃色的被膜填滿它們之間的低窪處，其中數處呈柔軟的粉狀，而在鍍層變薄的中央，一叢灰褐色的刃狀晶體高高挺立。
石膏的化學式是 CaSO4·2H2O，是多數藏家所收藏的礦物之中最柔軟的一種：莫氏硬度 2，單斜晶系，指甲即可劃傷，隨手擦拭便會失去光澤。淡紫色調均勻地貫穿整片晶簇並不常見，因為大多數石膏呈無色、白色或琥珀色，而黃色被膜又為這件標本添上第二種顏色，全然無需任何拋光。請乾燥保存，但不要曝曬——石膏會緩慢失去結晶水，在炎熱乾燥的展櫃中變得粉白。
岩板為 7.4 × 4.8 × 3.8 cm、90 g，不含底座，平放即可穩定。這些照片中沒有任何一處屬於其他標本：所見即為所寄。
