形容這個表面，只有「霜」字誠實。一層連續的無色微晶結殼覆蓋整片晶板，底下淡海綠色的螢石以柔和圓潤的塊體透出——有些近乎薄荷綠，結殼較厚之處則偏灰綠。沿著晶板的自由邊緣，結殼碎裂成閃爍的尖點，而在凹陷處仍看得見顏色更深的圍岩。
藏家稱這種形態為「糖霜」，它記錄的是晶洞裡的最後一幕：螢石結束生長之後，最後一波較冷的流體在一切表面上鋪了一層細小透明晶體的薄皮。在不同光線下它的表現截然不同：漫射的日光會帶出綠色的本體色，而點光源則點亮結殼，整片晶板隨之泛白閃爍。螢石莫氏硬度 4，而結殼正是把玩所要付出的代價，所以請托住底部。
晶板尺寸 5.8 × 5.6 × 2.3 cm，重 45 g，附圖中的透明壓克力底座，以白色黏土直立固定。這些影像中的一切，都是標本本身。
