關於此標本
一半是雕塑，一半是原始晶洞。雕刻師在一塊薄荷綠螢石的一側刻出完整的骷髏——中空的眼窩、俐落的鼻凹、一排帶著色帶的牙齒——然後在石塊轉為晶洞壁的界線處停手，讓整個後腦維持在原本的白色晶簇之下。深綠色的陰影積聚在眼窩之內，太陽穴上方的晶殼中則透出一抹淡淡的丁香紫。
螢石莫氏硬度 4，並在四個方向上具有完全解理，因此雕琢它是緩慢而低壓力的工作：晶角處一旦施力過猛，石頭就會沿著解理面裂開，而不是順從刀具成形。能用中國綠螢石雕出這樣尺寸的形體而不失手於任何一道解理，才是這件作品真正的成就——之後的拋光幾乎算是輕鬆的部分。
上手分量十足，尺寸 9.1 × 6.4 × 7.6 cm，重 1332 g，略超過 1.3 kg，能以下顎與底部平穩落座，無需任何支撐。下方那面深色鏡面是攝影師的工作檯，並非底座，而檯上的這顆骷髏，就是將被打包寄出的那一顆。
