關於此標本
無色的石膏針晶自橄欖褐色的岩殼中迸出，形成十來朵小小的星芒——有的像雪花般平貼在岩面上攤開，有的則凌空獨立，長成單枚修長的葉片。每一根針晶都晶瑩透明，解理面迎光之處泛著珍珠般的光澤，而它們身後深橄欖色的母岩，又讓這些無色晶體看來近乎銀白。
石膏是二水硫酸鈣，CaSO4·2H2O，莫氏硬度 2，是多數藏家收藏中最軟的東西：指甲就能留下劃痕，積水也會慢慢把它溶掉。這樣的針簇生長在富含硫酸鹽的水緩慢滲過空洞之處，每一朵花簇都始於洞壁上的一顆晶種。請乾燥存放，並遠離任何比它更硬的東西。
晶簇為 7.4 × 3.8 × 3.3 cm、75 g，一如石膏向來的特性，體積雖不小卻很輕，照片中未裝座、直接置於手上。此處沒有任何代表性樣張：這就是晶簇本身。
