關於此標本
單獨一顆晶體，也不需要旁人作陪：這塊薄荷綠螢石是一整塊玻璃般的方塊，寬度略小於四公分，立方晶面以寬闊的平階一路攀向斜切的上緣。綠是清冷帶水感的，而非草綠，薄處的邊緣淡到可以直接看穿，並在中段一片帶霜的內部色域處聚成帶煙感的青綠。
那些階梯是慢動作的生長。螢石在一個晶面上一層一層添加物質，供應不足時，層就在半途停住，留下這裡看得見的階梯狀稜邊與內凹的角。瑤崗仙位於湖南南部，是一座鎢礦，出產的螢石往往正是這種清冷色調，配上異常平坦、明鏡般的晶面。莫氏硬度 4，四個方向可解理——螢石摔落時很少崩角，而是直接裂開。
這顆晶體尺寸 3.8 × 3.6 × 2.8 cm，重 45 g，安置在照片中可見的透明壓克力條座上。畫面中的一切都取自這顆晶體，每一個角度皆然。
