關於此標本
外蜜內芥。這件北京螢石上的主晶是半透明的琥珀金色立方體，而在它內部——透過正面晶面便可直接看見——浮著一方色澤更深、飽和的黃色方塊，那是一圈色帶，在往內數毫米處重複著立方體本身的幾何。細密的平行階梯紋在晶面上層層盪開，記錄著生長以階地方式推進的過程；右側還倚進一顆顏色較淡的立方體。
在中國各產地之中，黃色是螢石較少見的顏色，抵達收藏者手中的多以紫色與綠色為主。整體的化學組成同樣是 CaF2，不同的只是微量的致色中心。摩氏硬度 4 加上完全的八面體解理，意味著拿取時要穩而輕，並且絕不可使用超音波清洗。
標本尺寸 5.1 × 4.1 × 3.8 cm，重 105 g。這些照片只屬於這一顆立方體。
