關於此標本
數枚粗短的黑色柱體自同一點向外展開，宛如輪轂上的輻條，晶面上刻著電氣石標誌性的深長縱溝。轉動之下光澤隨之變化——帶稜的側面呈緞面感，而完整保留的錐面處則近乎玻璃光澤——一道乳白色的粒狀結殼從放射簇的中段向上穿出，楔入晶體之間的縫隙。
電氣石是一種三方晶系的硼矽酸鹽，硬度 7 至 7.5，黑色品種的顏色來自鐵。它是極少數同時具有壓電性與熱電性的礦物之一：晶體受熱後，兩端會產生相反的電荷，這也是為什麼久置架上的標本，無論櫃子多乾淨，最後總會沾上一層灰塵與棉絮。
5.1 × 4.1 × 3.3 cm、50 g，握在掌心十分順手，隨附圖中的透明壓克力方座，以可移除的黏土固定。這些照片拍的正是這一叢晶體。
