關於此標本
墨黑般的深藍晶體擠滿了這件小標本的中央，每當晶面彼此對齊，便閃出短促而堅硬的光。藍色轉薄之處，一層鮮亮的草綠色絨氈接手，成片鋪展在粗糙的褐黑色鐵礦上——這塊母岩通體多孔，如蜂巢一般。標本以藍色一面朝前，安置在透明壓克力方塊上。
藍銅礦與孔雀石是同一過程的兩張面孔。兩者皆為次生銅碳酸鹽——藍銅礦為 Cu3(CO3)2(OH)2，孔雀石為 Cu2(CO3)(OH)2——形成於含氧水向下滲透銅礦體之處，隨著含水量增加，藍銅礦的藍便讓位給孔雀石的綠。一件標本上兼有兩者，等於把這場轉化捕捉在話說到一半的當下。兩者都不硬，摩氏硬度約 3.5 至 4，乾燥的間接光線比陽光直射的窗台更適合它們。
