墨黑般的紫羅蘭色以色帶穿行於一顆本身淺淡而半透明的晶體之中。這顆瑤崗仙螢石基本上是單一的大晶體，晶面上糊滿了細密的平行梯階——那是後期生長爬過舊表面所留下的痕跡——而色帶讀起來像是盒中之盒：一顆更早、更小的晶體被保存在如今這一顆的內部。兩顆無色的小石英晶尖坐在下緣，底部還有一小塊深色母岩作為錨定。
這樣的分帶形成於晶體停頓得夠久、周圍流體因而改變之時——一波帶色的微量元素、一層外來礦物的薄膜——之後晶體再繼續生長，覆蓋住這份記錄。湖南瑤崗仙是這種質地的紫藍色螢石在中國的經典產地。莫氏硬度 4 並具完全的八面體解理，它需要的是一個有襯墊的層架，而不是一只口袋。
