紫羅蘭色的螢石立方體被壓進這塊貴州標本板上淡檸檬奶油色的晶簇層裡，排列方式並非獨立的晶簇，而是一顆顆嵌臥於母岩之中，半埋半露。每顆立方體的晶稜色深、中央色淡，因此整組讀來像一套柔和的紫色畫框。無色晶體在左上角擠成一片，而一道褐色的風化殼則沿著底部通長延伸。
這種集中於晶稜的顏色是生長環帶：螢石一面一面地增添物質，當流體的化學性質脈動時，晶體就把它記錄成一圈較深的輪廓，透過通透的晶體仍清晰可見。這是收藏者刻意尋找的晶習，因為它把一顆樸素的立方體變成一部可讀的生長史。螢石莫氏硬度 4，並在四個方向上解理，因此請握住標本板的風化殼，而非握住晶體。
