About this specimen

Jiangxi purple fluorite with pyrite at 11 cm and 350 g; a cabinet piece. Keep dry. A rounded mass of plum-purple botryoidal fluorite with pale brassy pyrite in rounded rosettes clustered across its top.

Chinese fluorite has become a staple of modern collections for its sharp crystal faces, strong colour and a lustre that reads well from across the room.

Pyrite is the most collected metallic mineral, and the best pieces combine sharp form with a lustre that has not dulled; store it dry to keep it that way.

Jiangxi's tungsten mines, Xihuashan and Piaotang among them, are the classic source of wolframite, scheelite, baryte, fluorite and calcite specimens.

Dimensions place it in the cabinet range, 11 × 7.5 × 4 cm (4.33 × 2.95 × 1.57 in) and 350 g (12.3 oz). Otherwise the piece is sold exactly as photographed.

Each specimen is individually photographed and catalogued before it is listed.
