關於此標本
中央那枚立方體才是看點。它呈淡冰藍色，佔去正面大半，晶面上橫過一道生長階梯——方形的台階以乾淨的直角向內收。一枚玫瑰丁香紫的立方體自左上方斜倚而來，偏灰的薰衣草色晶體則從右側與下方擠入，接縫間塞著薄薄的白色石英結殼。
這裡沒有任何切割或修形，這些幾何形狀就是螢石的天性。當晶體生長夠快、新的生長層在前一層填滿之前便沿稜邊成核，就會形成這樣的階梯狀晶面，把台階原地凍結下來。各立方體之間的色差，來自晶洞冷卻過程中微量元素與晶格缺陷的細微差異——同一種化學式 CaF2，卻戴著好幾張面孔。莫氏硬度 4 加上完全解理，所以請讓它遠離任何可能撞到稜角的東西。
