這件內蒙古標本的中央，一枚寬闊如刀片的晶體直立而起，乳白色，光線穿過時泛出淡淡的綠意，而從它的下半部，一叢細長的白色柱晶像撒落的一把針般向外扇開。幾乎每一個晶面上都散布著細小的黑色顆粒，數十顆之多，底部則轉為粗糙的母岩，染上鏽橘色。
石英與方解石共生，是這一帶碳酸鹽晶洞的標誌，而這樣的組合很值得擁有：在同一件手標本上，您可以並排比較摩氏硬度 7 與硬度 3 的兩種礦物。請以較軟的一方為準——軟毛刷，絕不用酸，也絕不進超音波槽——搬動時從下方托住，因為細長的柱晶極易折斷。
尺寸為 6.0 × 4.6 × 7.2 cm，重 140 g，標本以黏土膠固定在圖中的透明壓克力底座上。這裡沒有任何一張是樣品照——就是這一件標本本身。
