關於此標本
數以千計的細長束沸石葉片自單一點放射而出，密聚成一枚桃奶油色的球，恰好填滿其下灰色玄武岩的凹槽。針尖霜白而無光；往下葉片轉寬之處，晶體變得玻璃般光亮、微帶半透明。近球冠處有一小塊更白、更細的生長，而下方多氣孔的岩石上，還附著兩枚蠟感的淡檸檬色結核。
印度的玄武岩流內布滿古老的氣孔，正是在那些氣泡之中，束沸石一類的沸石從循環的流體裡結晶而出。像這樣的球體，是生長自洞壁上單一晶核、再朝所有仍然開放的方向蔓延而成的。束沸石莫氏硬度 3.5–4，既軟且脆——保持乾燥，除塵用吹的而不要用刷的，葉片尖端才能保持銳利。
此件尺寸 5.1 × 2.5 × 3.8 cm，重 54 g，以黏土固定在照片中所見的透明壓克力方塊上。您在此看到的就是寄出的標本——每一張照片都拍自這一件。
