淡綠松石色的半球擠滿這件雲南霰石的展示面——約有十來枚，每一枚都是一束髮絲般的細針自一點扇形散開，直到整個面都化為絲絨。顏色介於鴨蛋青與冰川藍之間，在較大的球心處略微加深。沿著邊緣有幾簇白色針晶自藍色中逸出，而它們共同生長其上的深色鐵質岩，則在兩三處窗口透出。
霰石（CaCO3）與方解石化學成分相同，卻結晶成斜方晶系，因此偏好纖維狀、放射狀的形態，而不是塊狀的菱面體。那份藍一般歸因於孕育它的流體中微量的銅。莫氏硬度 3.5–4，針尖極易壓碎：請托著母岩拿取，切勿擦拭球面。
尺寸 8.4 × 5.6 × 2.5 cm、115 g，是一件扁平的板狀標本，正面朝上放在托盤或矮展架上最好看。此頁面的每一張照片都只拍攝這一件標本。
