About this specimen
Sichuan two-tone blue-green aragonite at 7.8 cm and 115 g; a small cabinet piece. A rounded mass of aragonite in radiating needles, mint-green over the top and pale blue-white toward the base, the two-tone colour the supplier names.
Aragonite is chemically the same as calcite but crystallises differently, which is why it builds sprays and columns instead of blocky rhombs.
Sichuan hosts Xuebaoding, Jinkouhe and Leshan, sources of aquamarine, scheelite, prehnite, gypsum and the epidote-quartz skarn specimens seen here.
Dimensions place it in the small cabinet range, 7.8 × 5.8 × 3.5 cm (3.07 × 2.28 × 1.38 in) and 115 g (4.1 oz). Condition is otherwise as photographed.
