兩顆立方體，兩種顏色。左邊的晶體是冷冽的冰藍色，內心透著淡淡的綠；右邊則是淡丁香紫，在光線從背面透入之處幾乎轉為粉色。兩者的晶面都不平整——都以淺淺的階地向上攀升，因此在灰色背景襯托下的輪廓，是一道由方正稜角疊成的階梯。髮絲般細的深色針狀包裹體以各種角度貫穿晶體內部，兩顆晶體交會的凹口處，則填著一層明亮的白色糖粒狀結殼。
拿放大鏡看看那些包裹體：每一根細絲都是在螢石生長時被捕獲並封存的，這正是它們以各種角度散佈於晶體之中、而非排列在同一平面上的原因。色帶則是第二份紀錄，以化學寫成：淡藍與丁香紫是兩次不同的流體脈動，就地凍結。螢石的化學式為 CaF2，莫氏硬度 4，四個方向完全解理——請橫跨晶面握持，不要抓在稜邊上。
