關於此標本
這塊香花嶺標本上的立方體呈淡海綠色，近乎透明，晶面則呈階梯狀——一層層方形平台相疊，彷彿每一個晶面都是分層砌起、而非平整長成的。最大的那枚立方體裡，一團柔和的紫色核心懸浮在綠意之中，像凝在冰裡的墨。無色的石英晶體與染上赭色的孔洞，填滿了這塊約一掌長的標本。
這類階梯狀的晶面，形成於生長速度超過晶體邊緣物質供應之時，使每一新層都略短於它下面的一層。紫色核心則是更早一代的螢石，被後來較綠的生長層直接包覆起來——這就是幻影，唯有外殼保持清澈才讀得出來。螢石莫氏硬度 4，沿八面體解理，因此在架上請讓它遠離更硬的標本。
11.4 × 4.8 × 3.6 cm，260 g，不含座台。這就是照片中的那一叢晶體，而非代表性的樣品。
