草綠色的石榴石晶體自這件小型母岩標本兩端的深色泡狀褐色外殼中破殼而出——玻璃質感，光線側掠時透明，而且各自朝向不同角度，並未聚成一叢緊密的晶群。外殼本身值得再看一眼：那是一層巧克力褐色的葡萄狀被覆，上頭密布著細小的杏色小球。
鈣鋁榴石是石榴石族中的鈣鋁端員，Ca3Al2(SiO4)3，其綠色來自佔據鋁位的微量釩或鉻。坦尚尼亞是與鮮綠色變種關聯最深的產地。石榴石無解理，莫氏硬度 6.5 至 7.5，晶體本身相當堅韌；但承載它們的外殼並非如此，一經刷洗便會碎落。
尺寸 3.3 × 1.8 × 2.5 cm、重 35 g 的小型標本，以白色黏土固定在透明壓克力方塊上，讓較佳的一組晶體朝前。每一張照片拍攝的都是所描述的這一件標本。
