Über diese Stufe
Olivgoldene Tafeln kreuzen und überkreuzen sich hier wie ein in Eile gefügtes Gitter: tafelige Barytkristalle, jeder eine flache goldene Platte mit hell aufblitzender Kante, in allen Winkeln übereinandergestapelt, bis die Gruppe als eine einzige verzahnte Masse erscheint. Darüber und dazwischen laufen blassere Tafeln, fast farblos mit warmem Anflug, die das Licht auf ihren breiten Flächen fangen, während die goldenen von innen heraus glühen.
Baryt ist BaSO4 – orthorhombisch, mit nur 3 bis 3,5 auf der Mohsskala und für sein Volumen erstaunlich schwer. Dieses Gewicht ist das verräterische Merkmal, sobald man ein Stück zum ersten Mal aufnimmt: 145 g bei einer Gruppe von kaum 6,6 cm Ausdehnung. Auch die Weichheit verlangt Respekt, denn dünne Tafelkanten brechen leichter aus, als ihr glasiger Glanz vermuten lässt.
Die Gruppe misst 6,6 x 5,1 x 3,3 cm, wiegt 145 g und ruht auf einem kleinen klaren Acrylblock. Was auf diesem Block fotografiert ist, geht auch in den Versand.
