Über diese Stufe
Blass fliederfarbene Kristalle bedecken diese Platte aus Guizhou in überlappenden Fächern, jeder ein kleiner, flachgedrückter Speer mit Meißelspitze, der sich so lange an seine Nachbarn lehnt, bis die ganze Oberfläche mattiert wirkt. Safrangelbe Krusten füllen die Senken dazwischen, mehrere weiche, pulvrige Flecken davon, und in der Mitte, wo der Überzug ausdünnt, steht eine Gruppe graubrauner Blättchen frei heraus.
Gips ist CaSO4·2H2O und das weichste Mineral, das die meisten Sammler überhaupt aufbewahren: Mohs 2, monoklin, mit dem Fingernagel ritzbar und durch bloßes Abwischen leicht zu mattieren. Ein gleichmäßig durch die gesamte Kruste getragener Fliederton ist selten, denn der meiste Gips kommt farblos, weiß oder bernsteinfarben, und die gelben Krusten geben dem Stück eine zweite Farbe, ohne dass dafür poliert worden wäre. Trocken lagern, aber nicht heiß – Gips verliert langsam sein Wasser und wird in einer heißen, trockenen Vitrine kreidig.
Die Platte misst 7,4 × 4,8 × 3,8 cm bei 90 g, ist unmontiert und liegt flach stabil. Nichts auf diesen Fotos gehört zu einer anderen Stufe: Was gezeigt wird, wird auch versandt.
