Über diese Stufe
Oliv- und Moostöne streiten sich um die Oberfläche dieser kleinen Prehnit-Kugel; das dunklere Grün wird von blassen cremefarbenen Adern unterbrochen, die sich in Schlaufen und Haken darum herumziehen. Die Oberfläche ist matt und feinkörnig statt glasig, und an einer Schulter sitzt eine Tasche dunkler gelbgrüner Kristalle, knapp unter die umgebende Haut eingesenkt.
Prehnit ist ein Calcium-Aluminium-Silikat, das fast nie als freistehender Einzelkristall wächst. Es baut sich stattdessen in traubigen Krusten und dichten strahligen Aggregaten auf, weshalb so viel davon in gerundeten, handfüllenden Formen wie dieser vorliegt. Mit Mohs 6 bis 6,5 ist es zäh genug, um es bedenkenlos anzufassen, und sein leicht wachsartiger Glanz nimmt das Licht eher weich auf, als es zurückzuwerfen.
Die Kugel misst 3,3 cm im Durchmesser und wiegt 50 g. Für die Kamera ist sie mit weißer Klebeknete auf einem klaren Acrylblock abgestützt, und die Aufnahmen oben zeigen genau diese Kugel.
