About this specimen
Peru, prehnite with clinozoisite at 3.6 cm; a miniature. A botryoidal prehnite growth in white to pale green, with yellow-green clinozoisite blades standing up out of one side of it — clinozoisite is the less common half of this pairing.
Prehnite forms botryoidal and fan-shaped aggregates of pale green crystals with a waxy lustre; Sichuan produces some of the best.
Clinozoisite is the aluminium-rich member of the epidote group, forming striated prisms in greens, greys and olive tones in metamorphic rocks and alpine clefts.
Peru's Huancavelica and Pasco mines are famous for pyrite, quartz, fluorite and sulfide specimens.
The piece is miniature in size, 3.6 × 2.6 × 2.4 cm (1.42 × 1.02 × 0.94 in). The specimen is otherwise sold in the condition shown.
