About this specimen
Yunnan prehnite with babingtonite at 5.2 cm and 19 g; a small cabinet piece. A spray of black babingtonite crystals grown over pale green prehnite, the two minerals the supplier lists.
Prehnite forms botryoidal and fan-shaped aggregates of pale green crystals with a waxy lustre; Sichuan produces some of the best.
Babingtonite forms lustrous black prismatic crystals; the Chinese material from Zhejiang is among the best ever found.
Yunnan is China's most mineralogically diverse province, source of the pyromorphite, azurite and blue aragonite that have become collector favourites.
