Sobre este espécimen
Pocas veces la galena se luce así: cubos esqueléticos y en tolva cuyas caras crecieron como marcos escalonados en lugar de cuadrados macizos, con una suave pátina gris azulada sobre el metal brillante que hay debajo. Se apilan sobre un nudo de calcopirita broncínea, y de los huecos irrumpen, como escarcha, ramilletes de cuarzo acicular y transparente como el agua.
El crecimiento esquelético se produce cuando las aristas de un cristal avanzan más rápido que sus caras —el sello de una cristalización rápida— y los coleccionistas valoran la galena con este hábito muy por encima de sus habituales cubos macizos. Metal azulado, sulfuro dorado y cuarzo transparente forman un contraste a tres bandas con verdadera presencia en tamaño miniatura.
Mide 3,7 × 4,2 × 4,2 cm, pesa unos densos 85 g y se expone sobre la base de acrílico que se muestra. Localidad no registrada: se vende tal como se recibió. Las fotografías son del ejemplar exacto.
