Xuebaoding, Sichuan, aquamarine with feldspar, mica and quartz at 4.7 cm and 49 g; a miniature. A cluster of blocky white feldspar with small pale aquamarine crystals, mica and quartz points set among them, the feldspar bright.
Glassy hexagonal prisms and a sea-blue tone define the aquamarine variety.
Feldspar is the matrix of choice in Chinese pegmatite specimens: blocky cream to pale-orange crystals that set off the garnet, quartz and tourmaline growing on them. Mica books, silvery to bronze, are the usual companion of pegmatite minerals and add a flash of pearly lustre to the piece.
The Xuebaoding veins of Pingwu County, Sichuan, produced the orange scheelite and muscovite-aquamarine combinations that put Chinese minerals on the map.
By size it is miniature, 4.7 × 3.8 × 4.2 cm (1.85 × 1.50 × 1.65 in) and 49 g (1.7 oz). Condition is otherwise as photographed.
