Guangdong specular hematite with quartz at 15 cm and 962 g; a large cabinet plate. A broad plate of black bladed specular hematite with pale quartz prisms standing through it, the hematite plates metallic and the quartz translucent.
Specularite forms glittering steel-grey plates, the iron oxide that makes so much Guangdong quartz sparkle.
Good quartz is about hexagonal prisms with clean terminations and the glassy lustre that lets a cluster catch light from every angle.
Guangdong's Jinlong district is known for hematoid and chlorite-phantom quartz with specular hematite, alongside fluorite and calcite.
By size it is large cabinet, 15 × 10.6 × 6.5 cm (5.91 × 4.17 × 2.56 in) and 962 g (33.9 oz). Otherwise the piece is sold exactly as photographed.
