Fujian calcite with dolomite at 40 g; a small cabinet piece with two carbonates. A cluster of pale yellow-green calcite rhombs with sharp faces and cream dolomite in the gaps, over a grey base.
Calcite is the most shape-shifting of common minerals: over 800 crystal forms have been described, and Chinese localities produce many of the best.
Dolomite's slightly curved rhombohedral faces separate it at a glance from calcite.
Fujian's fluorite-quartz veins have supplied collectors for two decades; the province is the source of most of the green and purple Chinese fluorite on the market.
The piece is small cabinet in size, 5.1 × 3 × 2.8 cm (2.01 × 1.18 × 1.10 in) and 40 g (1.4 oz). Otherwise the piece is sold exactly as photographed.
Carbonate: never clean with acid or vinegar.
