Yunxiao, Fujian, hexagonal thousand-layer calcite at 42 g; a miniature for the fluorescent-mineral collector.
Calcium carbonate in its rhombohedral form, calcite is soft (Mohs 3) and takes a bright vitreous to pearly lustre on fresh faces.
Fujian is China's most productive fluorite province, and its granite-hosted veins also yield the garnet, quartz and calcite that fill modern collections.
The piece is miniature in size, 4.3 × 3.5 × 2.5 cm (1.69 × 1.38 × 0.98 in) and 42 g (1.5 oz). Condition is otherwise as photographed.
Carbonate: never clean with acid or vinegar.
