Xuebaoding, Sichuan, aquamarine at 9 cm and 237 g; a cabinet piece. A cluster of pale green, frosted aquamarine crystals grown across a base of dark grey mica, the beryl translucent and stacked.
Aquamarine is the blue-green variety of beryl, forming hexagonal prisms with flat terminations; the Chinese material from Xuebaoding and Yunnan pairs it with muscovite and cassiterite.
Xuebaoding in Pingwu County is the classic Chinese source of scheelite, aquamarine and cassiterite on muscovite, mined from high-altitude greisen veins.
Dimensions place it in the cabinet range, 6.3 × 4.4 × 9 cm (2.48 × 1.73 × 3.54 in) and 237 g (8.4 oz). Condition is otherwise as photographed.
