À propos de ce spécimen
Un semis de cristaux de calcite vitreux parcourt cette large plaque du Fujian, le plus grand approchant 3 cm et taillé de tant de petites facettes biseautées que chacune renvoie la lumière dans une direction différente. La plupart tirent légèrement sur le bleu glacier ; quelques-uns, vers le centre, sont presque limpides comme de l'eau, et le groupe du bord droit est plus laiteux, proche du blanc givré. Sous eux, la matrice est une fine druse grise, granuleuse comme du sable grossier.
Le faciès mérite un second regard : il ne s'agit pas de rhomboèdres simples mais de formes trapues et multifacettées, plusieurs montrant des sommets plats parcourus de fines stries parallèles. La calcite est du CaCO3, à 3 sur l'échelle de Mohs, avec un clivage parfait dans trois directions — un choc sur un angle fait apparaître une surface de clivage plane au lieu d'un simple éclat ; soulevez donc la pièce par sa matrice et non par les cristaux.
Pièce de main de belle taille, 13,2 × 12,2 × 4,1 cm pour 525 g, photographiée libre sur fond gris, sans socle. Tout ce qui apparaît dans le cadre est cette plaque — aucun autre spécimen n'a servi de doublure.
