Over dit exemplaar
Twee kleine micamassa’s staan naast elkaar op één acrylblok, en het contrast tussen beide is waar de set om draait. Het linkerstuk is gedempt grijsviolet, met platen die gestapeld en deels gespleten zijn zodat er donkere lijnen tussen lopen als de randen van bladzijden; het rechterstuk is koeler en bleker, een zilverachtig bijna kleurloos lila dat veel meer licht teruggeeft. Beide bestaan volledig uit splijtvlakken, zonder vrije kristaltoppen.
Mica’s zijn bladsilicaten, en de ene perfecte splijting die de groep kenmerkt is precies wat u hier voor zich heeft: elk vlak, glinsterend oppervlak is één laag van de structuur die van de volgende loslaat. Ze zijn zacht, ruwweg Mohs 2,5 tot 3, en de schilfers zijn elastisch in plaats van bros: buig er een en hij veert terug, ongewoon gedrag voor een mineraal. Lila tinten in mica wijzen doorgaans op lithium dat in de structuur zit. Pak deze stukken bij de montage vast, niet bij de platen.
De set staat gecatalogiseerd op 4,1 × 2,3 × 2,3 cm en 25 g, beide stukken met kit op één heldere acrylvoet gezet. Beide stukken op de foto’s zijn de twee die u ontvangt.
