两块小型云母并肩立于同一块压克力座上，两者之间的对比正是这组标本的重点所在。 左边那件呈沉稳的灰紫色，片状晶层层堆叠并部分裂开，深色的线条在其间延伸，宛如书页的边缘；右边那件则更清冷、更浅，是银白近乎无色的淡紫，反射的光线多得多。 两件皆为解理面，没有自由生长的晶端。
云母属层状矽酸盐，定义这一族群的那一组完全解理，正是眼前所见：每一个平整而闪亮的平面，都是结构中的一层自下一层分离而成。 它们很软，摩氏硬度约 2.5 至 3，而其薄片具弹性而非脆性——弯折后会回弹，这在矿物中颇不寻常。 云母中的淡紫色调通常与结构中的锂有关。 请托着底座取放，不要捏持薄片。
