關於此標本
這件標本全靠一枚紫水晶晶體撐場，它以俏皮的角度自母岩上挺立而出。錐面呈柔和的葡萄紫，沿柱體向下約三分之一處便褪成近乎無色，晶面明亮且無損傷。晶體下方的母岩是一層淺灰綠色結殼，點綴著褐黃色薄片與細小的無色晶體，右下方另有一枚較小的紫色晶體破殼而出。
紫水晶的顏色來自被石英晶格捕獲的鐵，並由母岩中的天然輻射所啟動。這些色心多半在生長後期才形成，這也是為什麼紫色會集中在錐面附近——正如這枚晶體所呈現的那樣。石英硬度高，摩氏 7，無需特別照料，不過長時間直曬會讓紫水晶在數年之間褪色——放在遠離窗戶的層架，比放在窗台上友善得多。
體積小巧，3.8 × 3.2 × 3.0 cm、42 g，以黏土固定在照片中的透明壓克力方座上，而這些照片拍的正是這一枚晶體。
