About this specimen

Zimbabwe amethyst at 6.6 cm and 48 g; a small cabinet piece. A plate of pale quartz druse with small purple amethyst points standing across it, sold by the supplier under the super-seven trade name.

Amethyst is iron-coloured quartz; the purple is usually strongest at the terminations and fades toward the base.

Zimbabwe produces fine quartz, aquamarine and euclase from its granite pegmatites and the Karoi district.

Dimensions place it in the small cabinet range, 5.4 × 6.6 × 2.6 cm (2.13 × 2.60 × 1.02 in) and 48 g (1.7 oz). The specimen is otherwise sold in the condition shown.

Specimens are photographed and catalogued one at a time before they reach this page.
