About this specimen
Two lilac points rise from a low grey-green plate, a third crystal lying back against the rock beside them. All three run near-colourless at the base and gather violet toward their tips; their faces are bright and sharply terminated, smaller crystals crowd around their feet, and the host rock breaks to a dark, fine-grained band along the bottom edge.
Vera Cruz amethyst grows in cavities in altered volcanic rock, which is why the crystals come slender, often free-standing, and far paler than the Brazilian geode material most people picture when they hear the name. The colour arises from trace iron in the silica lattice (SiO2) altered by natural irradiation, and that same mechanism means it can fade under long exposure to sunlight — keep a piece like this out of a bright window.
The plate runs 7.4 × 5.6 × 3.6 cm and weighs 79 g, and it is sold without a stand. It will arrive looking exactly as it does here, points, matrix and all.
