About this specimen

Zimbabwe amethyst at 5.4 cm and 39 g; a small cabinet piece. A single purple amethyst crystal standing on a plate of grey quartz druse with orange flecks, sold by the supplier under the super-seven trade name.

Amethyst is iron-coloured quartz; the purple is usually strongest at the terminations and fades toward the base.

Zimbabwe produces fine quartz, aquamarine and euclase from its granite pegmatites and the Karoi district.

By size it is small cabinet, 5.4 × 5.3 × 2.7 cm (2.13 × 2.09 × 1.06 in) and 39 g (1.4 oz). The specimen is otherwise sold in the condition shown.
