About this specimen
Vera Cruz amethyst has a look no other locality repeats: long, slender, glassy prisms that deepen to violet exactly at the tips. This cluster from Piedra Parada, Veracruz, Mexico, carries a full fan of them — the tallest crowned in intense purple — rising from sparkling grey matrix, with paler lavender crystals crossing at lower angles beneath.
The locality’s crystals are famously delicate, and clusters that keep their terminations through recovery and transport are the exception; at 14.5 × 8.1 × 6.1 cm and 248 g this is a substantial example for Vera Cruz material.
